Asbury Park Polar Bear Races

Three lonely Highlands Hashers made their way down to Asbury Park to compete in the 50th Annual Polar Bear Races.
Freezing  cold rain and fierce winds off the Atlantic could not stop Jason and Sean from setting new PRs at the five mile distance.
Awards were presented at the very posh Berkley Carteret Hotel.
No pizza eating challenge this year, but a post-race celebration was had at the Anchor’s Bend Bar  inside the Convention Hall.

Here are the official results.
Sean   10th overall  30:33, PR,   Age Group Award and Plunge
Jason, 11th overall , 30:57. PR and Plunge,

Bob, 54th overall,  36:31  No award, No PR, and No Plunge.

for his efforts !
As always it was a fun day, and it was nice to see Ron
and his son Mark out with us . Of course the beer on trail
was nice also, however I'm a little skeptical about that 2nd

HH52 - Sean in Winter

On February 10, 2013, Sean ran a 5k in the snow, BAREFOOT. Here is the long awaited proof. The first video is the more watchable, shortened, with a soundtrack. The second is the full uncut version. (and yes, I know I put the full-frontal commentary portions in the wrong lap count.... this is entertainment people!) And thanks for the Aruba Rum!

Fitzgerald's 1928 Lager Run

With an average time of 19:39.39, the Highlands Hashers Men 40 team squeaked out a 10th place finish.  This is it, boys, we now have a point on the board!

Our next opportunities to score as a team are at the USATF-NJ XC 5k on August 11th, and after that the Liberty Waterfront 1/2M on September 22nd.  Both races are open to all divisions, so non-Masters runners can also get involved in the action.  Talk to Dave Franz if you have any interest in running either (or both!) of these races.

Special thanks to Gene Mizzoni - who ran 20 miles this morning and still managed to show up just moments before the starting gun, allowing us to score at all.

On - on.

The Roaming Gnome

The Sunday Long Runs have begun. Join Gene on almost any given Sunday up on some cinder trail. Columbia, Sussex, or Paulinskill. Last Sunday was Paulinskill at 6:00 a.m. We ran until we reached the fabled "Lord of the Rings" section and returned for 18 slow miles. You have the option of going shorter, as did JB who did 14. Just like Guinness, the Long slow miles will give you strength! Dave ran a sub 41 10k the very next day.

Special Thanks to Gino, Dave and Sean for dealing with my generally terrible mood all day. Also, for slinging bottles, pacing, retrieving singlets, and providing aid, you guys are champs.

We met at the usual Thursday night spot for our annual New Years Day run.

Afterwards, we have our barely earned post-run breakfast at the Diner.

We sure look like we have a lot of fun.  Won't you come join us sometime?
